INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Stand for Children Leadership Center Indiana has received a two-year, $250,000 grant from Eli Lilly and Company Foundation, Inc. to support the nonprofit education organization’s family engagement program.
Along with providing operating support, the grant will support Stand Indiana’s work to grow the Stand University for Parents (Stand UP) program and add services for parents such as Spanish translation at all classes.
Stand UP provides parents with the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to engage in their child’s education, increase family involvement in schools, and improve student learning.
“To strengthen our schools in a sustainable way, our community must be engaged, starting with parents,” said Foundation President Rob Smith. “The Stand UP program helps parents as they seek to be full and effective partners in helping schools improve.”
“We are so pleased that the support of the Lilly Foundation will help Stand Indiana reach even more parents in some of IPS’ most challenged schools,” said Stand Indiana Executive Director Justin Ohlemiller. “Parents are their children’s first teachers and must continue to be a part of their academic progress and success.”
Stand for Children Leadership Center is a 501(c)(3) organization focused on providing parents with opportunities to increase their direct involvement in their children’s education and to show greater leadership within their neighborhood schools.
The organization has earned the prestigious 4-star rating from Charity Navigator based on strength in Financial Health and Accountability & Transparency.
