The Indiana House Ways and Means Committee has approved a bill that would create a program to provide state matching grants for projects including the South Shore Line expansion. The proposal, which requires the Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority to make certain commitments to receive a grant, now moves to the full House. Earlier this year, Northwest Indiana RDA Chief Executive Officer Bill Hanna said the South Shore Line project already has commitments from 16 northwest Indiana communities. He says a study suggests the extension would add new riders and nearly $150 million to Indiana economy.
