As farmers continue to take their operations high-tech, an Indianapolis attorney says many issues concerning big data collection are “up in the air.” Todd Janzen with Plews, Shadley, Racher & Braun LLP says questions involving who owns data ranging from weather patterns to planting notes remain unanswered. Janzen and Beck's Hybrids Farm Server Lead Jim Shertzer discussed the growth and implications of farm technology on Inside INdiana Business Television. Shertzer says farmers should embrace the technology, saying it allows them to be more efficient and make better decisions. He says the company's “FARMserver” product uploads data to a “private cloud,” allowing users security and the ability to increase productivity.

Janzen says it's unknown what effects the use of drones will have on the industry. The Federal Aviation Administration has proposed a regulation framework that would open the door for more commercial use of small unmanned aircraft.
