The city of South Bend has agreed to invest $1.8 million in a long-awaited downtown renovation project. The sale of the former LaSalle Hotel to Fishers-based RealAmerica Development and Management LLC is set to close near the end of the month. Improvements are expected to total $10 million and take more than a year. In November, the city announced it would partner with RealAmerica. It parted ways with the original developer, Great Lakes Capital Development.

Work could begin in April.
