TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Mary Wade Atteberry, an experienced higher education communications professional and former award-winning Indiana journalist, has been named associate vice president for communications and marketing at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

In this new role, Atteberry will oversee communications and marketing daily operations, and assist in providing direction and supervision for the department. She leads all aspects of web, social media, print, video, digital, and media relations content to be integrated into a seamless work environment involving digital, print, and web assets.

Atteberry has spent 17 years as a public relations professional for the University of Indianapolis (UIndy) and Westfield Washington Schools. She was most recently vice president for communications and marketing at UIndy, leading a team of 14 staff members in advancing institutional strategic objectives and enhancing reputational objectives that achieved recruitment targets.

Also at UIndy, Atteberry was executive director of communications and marketing, director of university communications, and director of media relations. She helped raise the institutional profile measurably through strategic media relations practices, had a key role in rebranding the institution within the community, and implemented communications policies and procedures.

Atteberry previously served as director of community relations for Westfield Washington Schools, was a self-employed writer and editor, and assistant city editor, copy editor, and reporter at The Indianapolis Star. She received a grand gold medal for higher education reporting from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, participated in a higher education reporting fellowship from Lilly Endowment, and earned a first-place feature writing award from Indiana Associated Press Managing Editors, as well as many other statewide reporting and writing awards during her journalism career.

Sharing her skills and knowledge with others, Atteberry has been a board member of the Indiana Council for Advancement and Support of Education, a member of Indiana chapters of the American Marketing Association and Public Relations Society of America, and a member of the Indianapolis Public Relations Society.

Atteberry earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from The Ohio State University and added a master of business administration degree from UIndy.
