Ball State Campaign Beats Goal

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Cardinal Commitment: Developing Champions campaign has surpassed its goal by raising more than $20.6 million for intercollegiate athletics at Ball State University.
About 1,200 alumni, friends and former student-athletes contributed to the campaign, including a $300,000 matching gift from the Ball State University Alumni Association.
“The successful conclusion of this campaign is a testament to the generosity of our friends and donors in the Ball State University community for which we are deeply grateful.” said President Paul W. Ferguson. “Excellent facilities help attract and retain outstanding athletes and coaches and enhance the competitive experience for them as well as to improve the vibrant quality of engagement for our fans and supporters.”
The goal of $20 million was announced in April 2013.
“This is an exciting time for Ball State athletics,” said Mark Sandy, the newly appointed Ball State director of athletics. “Funds for Cardinal Commitment will not only improve our facilities but help us attract the best and brightest as we compete for conference championships.”
The investment in new and upgraded amenities will provide Ball State student-athletes the facilities they need to compete at the highest level as well as reinforce recruiting efforts, said Frank Hancock, chair of the Cardinal Commitment campaign committee.
“Since joining the Mid-American Conference, Ball State athletic teams have won or shared 100 conference championships,” Hancock said. “Our campaign donors’ support not only will allow the university to renovate both the baseball and softball venues but construct training facilities for basketball, volleyball and golf along with new football coaching offices and player meeting rooms. Those enhancements will aid student-athlete recruitment and enable our coaches and student-athletes to compete at a higher level, resulting in additional conference championships and further national recognition.”
The university will celebrate the successful completion of Cardinal Commitment on Jan. 23 as part of 2014-15 Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Donor Appreciation Dinner.
