Huntington, Ind. — The Huntington County Community Foundation has awarded two grants to Huntington University: $20,000 toward startup costs for the new Institute for Agricultural Studies and $30,000 for capital improvements to Forest Glen Park.
“We are grateful for the foundation's support of these two significant endeavors at Huntington University,” said Vincent Haupert, HU's vice president for advancement. “The foundation clearly understands and values the benefits of a new academic program and an enhanced athletic facility in Huntington County.”
In all, the Huntington County Community Foundation received 30 proposal for grants, and accepted proposals were funded through a Lilly Endowment Matching Grant. Proposals were chosen because their goals “improved the quality of life for Huntington County residents,” according to a letter from Michael Howell, executive director of the foundation.
Established in the fall of 2014, HU's Institute for Agricultural Studies promotes a Christian perspective on agriculture, which recognizes a responsibility to be good stewards of God’s creation and to examine questions of sustainability and justice.
HU's agribusiness program, set to enroll students in fall of 2015, is intended to meet the growing need for agribusiness professionals and includes concentrations in agrimanagement, agrimarketing, agrieconomics and finance, agrientrepreneurial small business management, crop production, communication and public policy, and ministry and missions.

On Dec. 18, the Huntington University Advancement Office announced the launch of a $700,000 campaign to renovate Forest Glen Park. To date, $313,158 has been raised through leadership pledges and gifts through “Friends of Forest Glen.”
The project will include the construction of a two-story brick building behind home plate to include a press box, restrooms, umpire changing room, concession area and training room. Additional enhancements include new dugouts and a backstop. The most compelling feature of these renovations will be elevated bleachers from dugout to dugout to include stadium seating behind home plate.
