INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership (INHP) has received a $6.3 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. The funding enables INHP to continue to help residents of Indianapolis access sustainable housing opportunities and support neighborhood development and revitalization.
Since 1988, the Endowment has awarded more than $136 million to INHP so it can fulfill its mission to increase safe, affordable housing in Indianapolis and in doing so help strengthen local communities. More than 27,000 Indianapolis residents have taken part in INHP initiatives that include homebuyer education, financial advising, and affordable lending programs, according to Moira Carlstedt, president of INHP.
“The tangible impact of this generosity is revealed in countless lives, homes and neighborhoods across the city,” Carlstedt said. “With the Endowment’s dedication to our mission, and in conjunction with partners across the private, public and nonprofit sectors, we will continue to offer responsive and relevant programs that promote long-term, successful homeownership and effective neighborhood revitalization.”
The grant will support foreclosure prevention services through INHP’s local partners. It will help Indianapolis residents develop and implement plans to enhance their neighborhoods and provide capital to neighborhood-based community development corporations for housing activities. The grant also funds research that will inform policy development about housing issues across the city.
“INHP’s mission to support both neighborhood revitalization initiatives and individual homeownership endeavors is central to the continued development of this community, said Ace Yakey, vice president for community development at the Endowment. “Our commitment to INHP assures that hard-working families both today and tomorrow have access to education and lending programs empowering them to become long-term sustainable homeowners in healthy, vibrant and diverse neighborhoods.”
Additional funds to INHP come from other foundations, government, corporations and individual contributions in order to serve the homeownership needs of Marion County residents and neighborhoods.
