Ice Miller LLP has named Melissa Proffitt Reese office managing partner of its Indianapolis office. She has held a variety of leadership positions at the firm, including managing partner and chair of its Agribusiness Group.

Indianapolis, Ind. — Ice Miller LLP is pleased to announce that Melissa Proffitt Reese will serve as the office managing partner for the Firm’s Indianapolis office.

“As a regional law firm, it is important that we focus on the various communities in which our major stakeholders—our clients, lawyers and employees—live,” said Steve Humke, chief managing partner of Ice Miller. “Ice Miller's Indianapolis office managing partner is a key representative of the Firm and will be a significant participant in establishing the strategic direction of the Firm. Melissa will be ideal in this role as she has been an important visionary of our Firm for decades serving in many leadership positions, including former managing partner of the Firm, and has been a tireless contributor to countless community organizations in Indianapolis and throughout the State.”

Melissa Proffitt Reese is a partner, former managing partner of the Firm, chairs the Agribusiness Group, co-chairs the Employee Benefits Group, and co-chairs the Firm’s Energy Group.

She has focused her practice in employee benefits, counseling both regional and international clients. In doing so, she advises clients on complex employee benefit matters, including the intricacies of Health Care Reform.

In addition to this substantive focus, as founder and co-chair of the Energy Group, Melissa has represented energy, utility and pipeline companies including Citizens Energy Group, Indianapolis Power & Light Company, Energy Systems Group, Inc. and Vectren Corporation with many of their legal needs. Her practice as founder and chair of the Agribusiness Group involves representation of numerous agriculture-related clients with regard to all legal needs. She is involved in economic development initiatives and coordinates with state and federal agencies focused on agriculture and energy initiatives.

Melissa is an accomplished attorney and community leader. She is active in politics and the Republican Party, on a local to a national level. She speaks frequently for a wide variety of professional organizations and has been recognized by both professional and community organizations, and by a number of business journals, as an outstanding leader and attorney. Melissa currently serves on 13 local, state and national boards devoting her time to support economic development, diversity, public safety, women's issues, and other initiatives of grave importance to our community.
