News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Mel Raines, one of the principal architects of Indianapolis’ highly acclaimed 2012 Super Bowl and more recently Chief of Staff to Indiana Congresswoman Susan Brooks, is joining Pacers Sports & Entertainment as Senior Vice President, Facilities Operations. She will begin March 2.

Raines, 45, a native of South Bend and an Indiana University honors graduate, also has played key roles in the organization and staging of five Republican National Conventions and served on the staff of former Vice President Dick Cheney in his second term.

In her new role with PS&E, Raines will oversee all operational facilities activity in Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

“Mel Raines brings unmatched experience and organizational skills to our team,” said Rick Fuson, President and Chief Operating Officer of Pacers Sports & Entertainment. “Her tireless work and planning, mostly behind the scenes, was essential to the success of our Super Bowl. She will be a valuable asset to both PS&E and our community.”

Raines served as Vice President for Event Operations and Government Relations in the three-year run-up to the 2012 Super Bowl. She oversaw 14 committees, including transportation and parking, weather preparedness, clean zone implementation, government services, state and city services, public safety, aviation services, ADA accessibility and risk management.

In November of that year, she joined newly elected U.S. Representative Brooks as her Chief of Staff.

“I could not be more excited to join the outstanding business team at PS&E, working with our great owner, Herb Simon, along with Rick Fuson and vice chairman Jim Morris,” said Raines. “As a Hoosier, it is a dream come true to get to work every day in the best NBA arena in the city I will get to call home again.”
