EVANSVILLE, Ind. (December 10, 2014) – Restoration progress continues at Evansville's former Greyhound station. Workers have buried electric lines, installed glass blocks along the main entry and rear sections of the building, and installed restored steel window frames. Recently more than 300 restored blue enameled-steel panels arrived at the site, and workers from Hi-Tech Sheet Metal, Inc. began test-fitting them on the building. Soon the historic station will sport its signature blue fa?ade once again.
All of the Greyhound station's steel panels were numbered and tagged prior to removal for restoration, then transported to Tri-State Powder Coating, LLC, where employees removed 1970s-era paint from the enamel and evaluated each panel’s porcelain finish. Workers stripped the original porcelain from salvageable panels and, where necessary, fabricated new ones before powder-coating all of them in colors to match the building’s elegant original scheme.
Indiana Landmarks is restoring the Greyhound station in preparation for finding a tenant that will add to the vitality of downtown Evansville.
