Funding requests for five projects have received the go-ahead from the Richmond Redevelopment Commission. The Palladium-Item reports they include nearly $125,000 for student housing near the Indiana University East and Ivy Tech Community College campuses and close to $250,000 for a rehabilitation center being constructed by Carmel-based Mainstreet. Plans for the new student housing, called The Annex of Richmond, call for more than 60 units and over 200 apartments. Construction is already underway and is expected to be complete in August.

The Mainstreet project is expected to cost up to $14 million and developers say it could create as many as 70 jobs. Officials are set to break ground early next year.

Other funding requests that received approval are $170,00 for a roof solar panel installation on a planned downtown shelter, $60,000 toward major improvements and additions at the Starr-Gennett area and Veterans Memorial Park in the Whitewater Gorge and $15,000 for a bicycle and pedestrian master plan in the city.

The latter is part of Richmond's Stellar Communities effort.
