INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Mayor Greg Ballard today announced the appointment of Andy Lutz as Director of the Department of Public Works. Lutz will begin serving in his new role December 20, 2014.
“Andy has played a pivotal role in all major projects and plans in the Department of Public Works as Chief Engineer,” said Mayor Ballard. “He is very experienced with our city's infrastructure and its needs. He is a problem solver who wants to get the job done and make our city a better place to live.”
Lutz currently serves as Deputy Director/Chief Engineer in the Department of Public Works. In this role Lutz manages the city's transportation, stormwater, parks and land stewardship projects and provides engineering expertise and support to other DPW operations such as the Indy Snow Force. He joined the Department of Public Works in 2006. Prior to joining the Department of Public Works, Lutz worked for the Kentucky Department of Transportation and Kentucky Division of Waste Management. Lutz graduated from Purdue University in 2000 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and is a licensed professional engineer in Indiana and Kentucky. Lutz's nomination will be submitted to the City-County Council for confirmation in January, 2015.
Lutz will succeed Lori Miser who Mayor Ballard appointed as Public Works Director on March 19, 2012. Miser originally served in the Department of Public Works from 1990 to 2000. She rejoined the department in 2005 and served as Executive Director of the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) prior to becoming Public Works Director. Miser is leaving the Department of Public Works to rejoin HNTB as Associate Vice President of Planning. She previously worked for that company from 2004 to 2005. Her last day with the City will be December 19, 2014.
“Lori Miser contributed greatly to making Indy a better place to live by completing RebuildIndy and setting the stage for future investment through RebuildIndy 2,” said Mayor Ballard. “Our city made unprecedented investments under Lori in streets, sidewalks, parks and neighborhood improvements, and will soon see extensive improvements to our drainage system that will benefit all of Marion County.”
Melody Park, Director of the Office of Sustainability in the Department of Public Works, will assume the additional role of Chief Engineer. Park has over 20 years of experience in project management, engineering and construction. Before joining the Department of Public Works in 2013, Park served as Vice President/Principal at RW Armstrong where she managed many large scale projects, including construction of the Indianapolis Cultural Trail. She also served as a Project Manager with the Indiana Department of Transportation. Park holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Purdue University (1992) and is a licensed professional engineer in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.
