Forbes: 'There's a Lot Happening Here'Posted: Updated:
One of the world's leading voices in business says Indiana is building a bright economic future through innovation and high technology. Steve Forbes was in Indianapolis last week for the Reinventing America series Innovation Summit. He says, instead of "acting like investment bankers and venture capitalists," Indiana is looking to create an innovation-friendly environment by lowering corporate tax rates and getting rid of "junky regulations." He says, while many states talk about eliminating government waste, "Indiana's doing it." Forbes was a guest on this weekend's edition of Inside INdiana Business Television. Forbes says there is a lot of high-tech research happening in Indiana. He specifically cited Gary Bernstein, who co-founded Indiana Integrated Circuits LLC. Bernstein developed "quilt packaging" technology, which he says allows for performance gains and cost cuts while miniaturizing microprocessors. Bernstein also took part in last week's summit.

This Summit will convene hundreds of the nation's top innovators, from agriculture to aerospace to medicine to finance, to discuss how they're changing the way they do business – and the world around them.
"Though America's industrial heartland has always been a place of unparalleled innovation, the recent resurgence taking place there is nothing short of extraordinary," said Steve Forbes, Chairman and Editor- in-Chief of Forbes Media. "The Innovation Summit will be a one-of-a-kind opportunity for those leading this revolution to meet, network and learn from one other."
"It's a very exciting time right now for business in our state and across the center of the country," said the Honorable Mike Pence, Governor of Indiana. "There's something truly special taking place, and it's a great time to come together and build on this success. We're thrilled to be hosting this summit with Forbes in Indiana."
For the past three years, Forbes has put a special focus on chronicling the far too overlooked business renaissance taking place in America's heartland. Through coverage on Forbes.com and in each issue of Forbes magazine, Forbes features "Reinventing America" stories of ingenuity, showcasing companies large and small that are finding exciting, enterprising new ways of surviving and thriving amid the increasing challenges of the global economy.
"We're thrilled that Forbes is recognizing the deep well of talent and strong entrepreneurial spirit in this part of the country," said Keynote Speaker Angie Hicks, Founder and Chief Marketing Officer of Angie's List. "We saw the value here in the people, the location and the business climate years ago. It's a point of pride that we have thrived here."
"The investment opportunity in the Midwest is growing by the day, spurred by innovative startups that realize there's life and vibrant opportunity east of Silicon Valley," said venture capitalist and Summit participant Mark Kvamme, CEO & Founder, Drive Capital.
"Indiana is at the forefront of the exciting changes taking place in America's heartland," said Victor Smith, Indiana Secretary of Commerce. "It's a great place to do business, and it's the perfect place to host a gathering like this."
Following the success of the inaugural "Forbes Reinventing America Summit" in Chicago, which took place March 26-28, 2014,"Forbes Reinventing America: The Innovation Summit" will form part of a series of "Forbes Reinventing America Summits" taking place in 2014 and 2015.
