A Fort Wayne-based company is seeking tax abatement on a plan to relocate its headquarters to a former potato chip factory. As part of the more than $1.4 million proposal, Dirig Sheet Metal will also improve equipment to help meet increasing demand. November 10, 2014

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Dirig Sheet Metal is considered an industry leader in specialty sheet metal, with more than 80 skilled employees boasting an average of more than 25 years of experience

in the trade. The company is focused in specialty, commercial, and industrial industries. Dirig will be moving into the former Olde York Potato Chips Factory, located off of Cook Road.

“We are excited to enter this new phase here at Dirig Sheet Metal,” stated Stan Watkins, Owner of Dirig Sheet Metal. “We are heavily invested in the Fort Wayne community, and are proud to contribute to the growth our region has seen over the last several years. We hope this new venture will not only help Dirig Sheet Metal continue to grow as a company, but also continue to help keep Fort Wayne thriving in business and job growth.”

Dirig will be investing $1,435,000 in the new facility, upgrades to the new location, and machining/equipment. The improvements to the new facility will allow the company to expand operations which have been increasing over the years.

“Fort Wayne continues to be a leader in business and job growth,” said Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry. “We appreciate the commitment by Dirig Sheet Metal to invest in our community. The unprecedented momentum we're experiencing positions us for future success as we work together to move our City forward in a positive direction.”

Dirig is being offered a 7 year tax phase-in, valued at $142,434 from the City of FortWayne. The project will be presented to City Council on November 18.
