A $22 million sports village and hotel planned for Greenwood is on hold. A spokesman for Florida-based GoodSports Enterprises Global LLC says the developer cut ties with funding partners and is pursuing new investors within the community. The proposal had already received approval from the city and was expected to create more than 100 jobs.

Plans called for a more than 120-room “athlete-minded hotel” and a fieldhouse for travel basketball, volleyball and other sports events.

The company was planning to break ground this fall and open next year on the location where a Cabela's Inc. (NYSE: CAB) store and water park were to be before those plans fell through about five years ago.

News Release

SARASOTA, Fla. – GoodSports Enterprises Global will be suspending development in Huber Heights, OH and Greenwood, IN indefinitely until a strategic funding partner has been secured.

In April of 2014, GoodSports stepped away from its funding partner when it became apparent interests no longer aligned. Initially a set back, GoodSports decision to step away from its funding partner would ultimately strengthen the position of the company and reaffirm its commitment to the athlete-minded community.

“Our funding partner continued to change the terms of our agreement, ultimately taking a position that no longer aligned with our company or the sports communities where we were building,” remarked Jerald Good, President and CEO of GoodSports Enterprises Global.

Since April, GoodSports has been working with several groups and individuals to secure a strategic long-term financial partner. In the meantime, the company will initiate the final steps to begin construction of the first GoodSports Village in Wichita, KS located on the northeast corner of K-96 and Greenwich Road.

Though GoodSports will be suspending Huber Heights, OH and Greenwood, IN, it will continue to seek funding in the surrounding Dayton and Indianapolis areas. It has been and still is the position of GoodSports that these markets are essential to a national sports facility network.
