Village Post Office to Open in Milroy

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The small town of Milroy is at the crossroads of the state that is described as the Crossroads of America. Milroy is in Rush County, which is located about halfway between the metropolitan centers of Indianapolis and Cincinnati.
A community of farmers and farm-related business, Milroy has the best of both worlds — the tranquility of a rural area along with the amenities of a large town. Just six miles from the town is the area’s claim to fame — the Moscow Covered Bridge.
Milroy will have another claim to fame on Thursday, November 6, 2014 when the 74th Village Post Office (VPO) opens at Pavey’s Mini Mart, 7972 S. State Road 3, Milroy, IN 46156.
The grand opening will be at 10 a.m. (EST) and an open house will follow from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Pavey Mini Mart opened in May 2014. Before that the space had been a vacant lot, so the store is an additional feature in the community. “We decided to open a VPO in the store, because we believe it will bring extra foot traffic as we’re at a busy corner, and also we’re open when the Post Office has closed for the day,” said owner Steve Pavey.
Pavey said he always has sold stamps, but having the Priority Mail flat-rate boxes and also that customers can drop off their mail at the store will be a big draw.
Pavey Mini-Mart is open Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sundays from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The new postal center will be opened by Manager, Post Office Operations Keith Blane. Several USPS and local officials will be present at the event.
In 2011, the Postal Service introduced the VPO model as an alternate retail location for postal products and services, especially in rural communities.
VPOs are operated by local businesses contracting with the Postal Service and offer a range of popular postal products and services including stamps and flat-rate packaging.
