MADISON, Ind. — Ivy Tech Community College has selected Kathleen Mote as campus president of its Madison campus. She most recently served as lead chair of the criminal justice curriculum committee at Ivy Tech – Madison and as Deputy Prosecuting Attorney with the Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office.
Reporting to the regional chancellor, Chris R. Lowery, she will focus on local community outreach. She will manage daily campus operations, while fostering a campus climate consistent with the college’s core values. Mote will consult with regional administrators to achieve policy objectives and goals for building new and varied community outreach and partnerships, as well as expanding the availability of the college’s instructional and student support services to the community.
“The talented, dedicated faculty and staff at the Madison campus and the relationships they build with their students is our greatest strength,” Mote said. “I am honored to work with this outstanding group of professionals, and I welcome this great opportunity to serve Jefferson County by strengthening our current relationships within the community and reaching out to our partners in the City of Madison, in secondary education, and within industry to continue our mission of changing lives and making Indiana great.”
Mote began her career with Ivy Tech as an Adjunct Professor of general education in 2009. In 2011, she became Assistant Professor and Chair of the regional Criminal Justice program; she was promoted to Associate Professor in 2014.
Mote holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, earned with high distinction, in English and Spanish from Indiana University, Bloomington. She also studied at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain. She was a visiting student at the Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis and earned her Juris Doctor in 2005 from the Maurer School of Law at Indiana University. She served as Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Jackson County in Brownstown from 2007 until 2008, and in Jefferson County in Madison from 2013 until the present.
“During her tenure with the Madison campus, Katie has developed strong relationships with community partners, enhanced service learning projects, and increased internship opportunities for students,” Lowery said. “Her commitment to her students and to the southeastern Indiana region will be invaluable as Ivy Tech works to meet the needs of our communities and increase the levels of educational attainment in the region.”
In addition to her service to Ivy Tech Madison, Mote serves on the School Commission for Prince of Peace Catholic Schools in Madison, volunteers at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Southeastern Indiana, serves on the advisory board of the Madison Correctional Facility, and is an associate member of the Fraternal Order of Police “Stacks of Power,” Lodge #28, in Madison.
Mote lives in Madison with her husband, D.J., and their two children.
