Council members in two of Indiana's biggest cities went different directions with budget votes last night. The South Bend Common Council approved a 2015 budget, while the Evansville City Council rejected a proposal. In an interview with our partners at Eyewitness News in Evansville, Mayor Lloyd Winnecke says the decision puts the city in uncharted territory. Eyewitness News also reports the council rejected a $1.5 million plan to fund Roberts Park and $250,000 for “ShotSpotter” technology, which has sensors that let law enforcement know when a gun has been discharged.

The state has a November 3 deadline for all cities to approve budgets. If Evansville City Council cannot reach an agreement by then, the 2014 budget will take affect for 2015.

Our partners at Fox 28 in Elkhart report South Bend council member unanimously agreed on the more than $300,000 2015 budget. It includes $750,000 for curb and sidewalk improvements.
