Airport Begins New East Coast Service

South Bend International Airport will celebrate the first flight arriving from Newark Liberty International Airport Sunday. The daily flights are operated by ExpressJet.

South Bend, Ind. -- The inaugural flight from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) descends into South Bend International Airport (SBN) on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at 9:23 p.m. In celebration of the first nonstop flight from New York City, passengers will be greeted at Gate A7 by Airport and United Airlines representatives, and will receive Welcome to South Bend gift bags. Abraham Marcus, St. Joseph County Airport Authority Board of Directors Vice President will be arriving on this flight.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at Gate A7 at 5:30 a.m. on Monday, October 27, 2014 with South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, St. Joseph County Airport Authority Board of Directors President Thomas Botkin, representatives from United Airlines and St. Joseph County Chamber of Commerce President Jeff Rea.

Passengers on the inaugural flight will be given complimentary 'New York' bagels, 'Big Apple' muffins, apples, coffee and juice before boarding the flight.

ExpressJet will operate the daily flights using ERJ-145 regional jet aircraft with 50 United Economy seats. The daily flight departs SBN at 6:20 a.m. arriving at EWR at 8:23 a.m. The return flight departs EWR at 7:00 p.m. arriving at SBN at 9:13 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase at www.united.com.
