News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellspermann joined executives from Activate Healthcare, LLC, a national employer medical service provider, today to announce the company's plans to expand its operations here, creating up 203 new jobs by 2023.

The homegrown-Hoosier company, a provider of primary healthcare clinics within or near workplaces, will invest $656,080 to lease, renovate and equip a 3,400 square-foot office at 9302 North Meridian Street in Indianapolis, more than tripling its headquarters space. With plans to expand again at the same location next year, Activate Healthcare's headquarters growth will allow it to improve support to its on-site healthcare clinics throughout the Midwest, including 18 clinics in Indiana serving well over 40,000 patients.

“Indiana has emerged as a magnet for the home bases of life science and healthcare-related companies,” said Lt. Gov. Ellspermann. “These developing industries are making Indiana a home of innovation, with companies like Activate Healthcare choosing to locate their headquarters here. By setting taxes low and nurturing a Hoosier workforce skilled in science, Indiana is proud to be a state that works for healthcare leadership.”

Activate Healthcare, which currently employs approximately 110 full-time Indiana associates, has already begun hiring healthcare, administrative, business support, marketing, technology and finance professionals. Interested applicants may apply by submitting a resume to HR@activatehealthcare.com.

“Indiana is where we started, and Indiana is where we want to grow,” said Peter Dunn, Activate Healthcare principal.

Founded by Dunn and former healthcare chief executive officer Debra Geihsler in 2010, Activate Healthcare has more than 22 clinics throughout Indiana and the Midwest. Experiencing 100 percent growth annually since its founding, Activate Healthcare's clinics are currently expanding into Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan and Illinois. Activate Healthcare is transforming the primary care delivery model by developing and managing the next generation of workplace health clinics. By providing proactive, preventative, relationship-based primary care, Activate Healthcare improves the health of its patients and reduces healthcare costs for employer clients.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Activate Healthcare, LLC up to $3,900,000 in conditional tax credits and up to $200,000 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans. These tax credits are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The city of Indianapolis supports the project at the request of Develop Indy, a business unit of the Indy Chamber.

“Employers are increasingly looking to provide their employees with better, more efficient health care and Indy's own Activate Healthcare is providing that solution on a national scale,” said Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard. “As Activate continues to grow in their market, they are leveraging talent right here in their own back yard.”

About Activate Healthcare

Headquartered in Indianapolis, Ind., Activate Healthcare was formed in 2010 by Debra Geihlser and Peter Dunn with the goal of transforming health care by delivering primary care that engages the patient, supports a culture of health, guides the health care continuum to lower costs, and enables employers of all sizes to benefit from dedicated care. The company currently serves approximately 40 to 50 employers through 20+ clinics.

Activate clients often see a 15 to 25 percent reduction in healthcare costs, providing a strong financial return for every dollar invested in a clinic, and employee participation is often in excess of 80 percent with spousal participation often above 60 percent. Unlike other models, Activate dedicates a full-time physician and a full time nurse practitioner coach to each clinic, so employees have continuity in both medical care on ongoing coaching and support that is tailored for each patient. About IEDC

Created in 2005 to replace the former Department of Commerce, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation is governed by a 12-member board chaired by Governor Mike Pence. Victor Smith serves as the Indiana Secretary of Commerce and Eric Doden is the president of the IEDC.

The IEDC oversees programs enacted by the General Assembly including tax credits, workforce training grants and public infrastructure assistance. All tax credits are performance-based. Therefore, companies must first invest in Indiana through job creation or capital investment before incentives are paid. A company who does not meet its full projections only receives a percentage of the incentives proportional to its actual investment. For more information about IEDC, visit www.iedc.in.gov.
