An event returning to southeast Indiana after a decade-long absence represents another phase in Jeffersonville's comeback. Steamboat Days, which honors the city's Ohio River heritage, coincides with the Centennial Festival of Riverboats in Louisville and the nearby Clarksville Riverfest. Luanne Mattson with the Clark-Floyd Counties Convention & Tourism Bureau says the events, which run through Sunday, are expected to attract tens of thousands visitors to the area. She believes the events will show guests that haven't visited in a while that riverfront restaurants and bars are “open for business.”

The Big Four Bridge has a pedestrian walkway that connects travelers from Louisville to Jeffersonville's downtown. Red Yeti Brewing Co. recently began serving their own beer and Indianapolis-based Flat 12 Brewing Co. is set to open a second location nearby.

Mattson expects some of the large crowds expected at the Louisville event to trickle across the span this weekend.

Jeffersonville has seen a major increase in new employers locating to the community over the last two years, particularly at the River Ridge Commerce Center.
