An event focusing on supplier diversity is set for this month at Ivy Tech Community College in Bloomington. The workshop will include discussions on certification, procurement guidelines and business opportunities with the school. October 15, 2014

News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Ivy Tech Community College will host a Supplier Diversity Event that will explore resources, opportunities and methods for earning business at Ivy Tech and beyond.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, October 23, from noon to 5:30 p.m. at the Connie and Steve Ferguson Academic Building at Ivy Tech's Bloomington Campus, located at 200 Daniels Way, Bloomington.

Hosted by Dr. Benjamin Young, Ivy Tech's Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, as well as James Hudson, Ivy Tech's Chief Procurement Officer, the free event will focus on minority, women and small business owners in conjunction with the 2014 Indiana NAACP State Convention. Suppliers and businesses will have the ability to learn about certification opportunities, procurement guidelines, business opportunities and much more.

The event will kick off with a welcome from Ivy Tech President Thomas J. Snyder and Ivy Tech Bloomington Chancellor Jennie Vaughan, followed by greetings from State NAACP President Barbara Bolling Williams, Esq.

Ivy Tech has increased the level of Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and Woman-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE) purchases by 93 percent since 2007.

To drive continued success, the college has recently created a Supplier Diversity Playbook which requires the identification and solicitation of at least 2 MBE’s and 2 WBE’s when seeking proposals, quotes or bids above $25,000.

In addition to the state, city of Indianapolis, and Mid-States Minority Supplier Development Council certified MWBE lists, Ivy Tech now also encourages employees to utilize the Supplier INsight Procurement Portal from Conexus Indiana, which contains over 8,000 registered Hoosier suppliers of which over 2,000 are diversity or veteran-owned enterprises.

“We understand there may be circumstances in which it is difficult to identify MWBE's who can provide the goods and services needed,” said Hudson. Regarding the October 23 event, he adds, “Visibility into opportunities and resources is essential to success. We designed this workshop to share information that will help MWBE's gain more business.”

The workshop is free to attend, but registration is required. To register, please contact Val Romain at mromain@ivytech.edu or call 317-921-4338. Please register by Thursday, October 16.
