News Release

Indianapolis, Ind. — Craft beer lovers have a lot to celebrate here in Indiana, not only because the state's list of breweries continues to grow, but the state is starting to receive national recognition.

On Thursday, Oct. 23, the Indiana State Museum will host the first of two live panel discussions that will explore the rise of the Indiana craft beer scene. The panel discussion Rise of the Craft Beer in Indiana is a part of the museum's program series for American Spirits: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition , a traveling exhibition on view through Feb. 15, 2015. The event will be hosted from 6 to 7 p.m. at Tow Yard Brewing Company located 501 E. Madison Ave. in Indianapolis.

“We are hoping for a great turnout of craft beer lovers and those entrepreneurs behind many of our favorite breweries,” said Rebecca Smith, public program developer. “This is going to be a riveting discussion on the history of Indiana brewing as well as the rise of home brewing and craft beers in Indiana.”

Panelists participating in the discussion include Rita Kohn, author of True Brew: A Guide to Craft Beers in Indiana; Doug Wissing, author of One Pint at a Time: A Traveler's Guide to Indiana Breweries; Anita Johnson, owner of Great Fermentations; and Bob Ostrander and Derrick Morris, coauthors of Hoosier Beer: Tapping into Indiana Brewing History.

Tickets to the panel discussion include entry into the exhibition. Admission is $25 per museum member and $35 per nonmember. The program is supported by a grant from the Arthur Jordan Foundation.

The next discussion, Hoosier Blues: A Look at Indiana's Blue Liquor Laws, will take place Thursday, Jan. 22, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Indiana State Museum. For more information on the panel discussions or other events at the museum, please contact the museum at 317.237.1637 or visit online at indianamuseum.org.
