Holy Cross Breaks Ground on Dorm

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – “Change is good!” Holy Cross College President Brother John Paige used these words while highlighting the new look at Holy Cross College in Notre Dame, Indiana.
While many colleges and universities are struggling, Holy Cross is experiencing growth in student enrollment and in physical presence within the community. The latest addition to the college's campus will be a new women's residence hall scheduled to open in August 2015.
A ground breaking ceremony was held on October 10 to formally kick-off construction of the new building. Members of college's Board of Trustees, administration, faculty, staff, students, and special guests were present to celebrate the expansion of Holy Cross. At the ground breaking, Brother John noted that the new dormitory will add campus housing for 68 young female leaders of tomorrow. The overall campus housing capacity will increase by approximately 30 percent, a significant increase in the makeup of the campus community.
The new physical structure also means a dramatic change to the look of Holy Cross College's campus. The center of the campus evolves from concrete parking, into a grassy student-centered quad, a green space in which students and faculty can gather. Brother Paige called this new centralized courtyard “…a marvelous space to increase our collegiate atmosphere and support the relationships we build at Holy Cross.”
The changes do not stop there. New basketball, beach volleyball, and first of its kind, regulation dodge ball courts will be constructed adjacent to the Pfeil Recreation Center. Expanded parking on the southeast side of the college will allow easy access to activities and events for students and visitors of the college.
President Brother John Paige closed the ground breaking event with, “As the saying goes, 'Here we grow again'. Yes, change is coming to Holy Cross' campus… and change IS good!”
