Three east central Indiana communities are joining forces in hopes of rebounding from two decades of manufacturing job losses. Muncie, Anderson and New Castle are forming what they call “The Manufacturing Triangle,” aimed at bringing new life to plants that once housed companies including Delco Battery, Chevrolet Muncie and BorgWarner Automotive. East Central Indiana Regional Planning District Project Manager Brad Bookout says the organization will roll out specific initiatives for each city at an event this afternoon. The communities will also take part in collaborative projects, including improving housing and quality of life opportunities. Bookout says the combined job loss in the region over the last 20 years is about 40,000 people. He says, while the main focus of the effort is to bring manufacturing jobs back to the communities, the region will also look to expand into new areas such as electronics. He says a major part of the collaboration will be supporting businesses already in place in the three cities and encouraging job growth.

The planning district says the five main goals of The Manufacutring Triangle Are:

1. Focus investment and effort on catalytic projects

2. Position the region for state and federal investment

3. Align individual efforts around a vision that helps fuel pride, energy and return on investment

4. Enhance region building and collaboration for efficiency

5. Reposition the region in the future marketplace

The East Central Indiana Regional Planning District is holding a rollout event this afternoon at 2:00 at the Flagship Center in Anderson.
