$90M Hospital Planned For Shelbyville
Shelbyville-based Major Health Partners has unveiled plans for a nearly $90 million hospital campus. Officials call the new 350,000 square-foot facility an investment “in the future of health care.” The announcement was prompted by increasing outpatient demand and dwindling space at its current facilities. Marketing Director Robert Carmony tells Inside INdiana Business the new campus will lead to significant savings, including an estimated $30 million that would be needed to update its current downtown location. When the first facility was built downtown in 1980, Carmony says 70 percent of patients were seeking inpatient care. He says 70 percent are now looking for outpatient options.
The new operation will house more than 930 employees and close to 60 physicians. It will include 56 private rooms and 38 outpatient rooms in its ambulatory care center.
The new Major Hospital will be located at the Intelliplex business park property, which is located next to I-74, where the system already has oncology, orthopaedic, cardiology and OB/GYN centers.
