Officials from Indiana and Kentucky will hold a dedication ceremony next month to mark the reopening of a major bridge. Traffic returned to the Milton-Madison Bridge in April, but some work on the structure's new sidewalks continues. September 12, 2014

News Release

MADISON, Ind. – A public ceremony to dedicate the new Milton-Madison Bridge is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, October 1 in Madison, Indiana. The governors from Indiana and Kentucky will be on hand to highlight the innovative solution used to replace the bridge.

At nearly a half-mile long, the Milton-Madison Bridge became the longest bridge in North America – and perhaps the world – to be slid laterally into place when it was moved 55 feet from temporary piers onto refurbished permanent piers this past April. The bridge reopened to traffic on April 17.

Work on and around the bridge continues. One of the last major tasks is to complete the pedestrian sidewalk, something the old bridge didn't have. This work is expected to be complete later this year. Improvements are also being made on properties under and near the bridge.

Who:
