FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Indiana Association of Cities and Towns (IACT) announced today that Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett has been elected to succeed Angola’s Richard Hickman as the group’s president in 2015. Bennett was elected by the membership at IACT’s 2014 Annual Conference and Exhibition held earlier this week in Fort Wayne.
Also elected were Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight who will serve as IACT’s 1st Vice President and Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke as 2nd Vice President. All three take office January 1, 2015.
“Mayor Bennett has been very active in our association and a committed member of the IACT Board of Directors. He has made many trips to the statehouse to advocate for cities and towns and is very well-versed on the workings of municipal government at all levels. Our members have elected an incredible lineup of officers in Mayors Bennett, Goodnight and Winnecke” said IACT Executive Director and CEO Matthew C. Greller.
Mayor Bennett noted, “IACT represents Indiana’s largest cities and smallest towns. I’m thrilled to represent all of them and will focus my energy on working together with my colleagues to educate legislators, policy makers and our citizens on the important role municipal government plays in the success of our state.”
Currently serving in his second term as mayor of Terre Haute, Bennett is former chair of IACT’s Legislative Committee and was first elected to the Board of Directors in 2011. He was elected 2nd Vice President in 2012 when former Petersburg Mayor John Craig resigned to take a position in state government. Bennett was elected 1st Vice President by the IACT membership at the 2013 Annual Conference & Exhibition in Indianapolis.
