Washington — Paralympic gold medalist and highly sought-after motivational speaker Muffy Davis will share her story of finding strength through adversity and moving forward to achieve her dreams with hundreds of women entrepreneurs from across the U.S. as a keynote speaker at the NAWBO Women's Business Conference 2014, September 8-9 in Indianapolis, IN.

At the age of 16, Muffy was on track to compete as a ski racer in the Olympic Games when she suffered a devastating accident that left her paralyzed, but didn't take away her motivation to succeed. Muffy went on to win three gold medals in the summer 2012 London Paralympics, just 10 months after neck surgery. Currently, she is training and looking to defend her titles in the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games.

Muffy graduated from Stanford University, where she majored in human biology with a concentration in disability studies. She is also involved in various national and international organizations, including serving on the International Paralympic Committee's Women in Sports Committee that is working to increase sports opportunities and leadership roles for women within the Paralympic Movement.

“I believe that as women, we truly need to stick together and support each other as much as possible,” says Muffy. “It is a cutthroat world, and the more we can assist and support each other to reach our goals and be successful, the more we can all become successful. NAWBO is that support system that is there to support and assist all women business owners to reach their goals. NAWBO understands the unique needs, stresses and desires of women business owners and is an incredible resource for support for these women.”

Muffy adds that, “We all need inspiration and motivation from time to time. I hope that sharing my story and some of the lessons and skills I learned to triumph will help these fellow women when they might find themselves in a difficult and trying time to be empowered and overcome their own challenges.”

The theme of the NAWBO Women's Business Conference 2014, “The Power of YOU,” is designed to help women entrepreneurs power their business, lifestyle and community. The event features breakout sessions on the most current business and professional lifestyle topics, an exhibit hall packed with networking opportunities and resources, a keynote by sisters Katherine Kallinis Berman and Sophie Kallinis LaMontagne, co-founders of Georgetown Cupcake and stars of the hit series DC Cupcakes on TLC, and a keynote small business panel featuring JJ Ramberg, Host of MSNBC's Your Business and co-founder of Goodsearch.com; Susan Duffy, Executive Director of the Center for Women's Entrepreneurial Leadership at Babson College; and Susan Solovic, THE Small Business Expert.

“We're thrilled to have Muffy join this year's amazing lineup of conference speakers committed to the success and growth of women entrepreneurs,” says Darla Beggs, Chair of the NAWBO National Board of Directors and President of Abba Staffing and Consulting in Dallas/Fort Worth, TX. “There are more than 9.1 million firms owned by women in the U.S. today, employing nearly 7.9 million people and generating $1.4 trillion in sales, and we are only growing stronger thanks to organizations like NAWBO and our partners and supporters.”
