Colleges Announce Enrollment Increases

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – A 4.5 percent increase in enrollment for the fall 2014 academic semester puts Holy Cross College at Notre Dame, Indiana in an elite group. Holy Cross College is experiencing positive growth, while many colleges and universities are reporting stagnated or falling enrollment numbers.
The 535 students registered at Holy Cross make it the second highest enrollment in the college's history. The highest enrollment was 557 students in fall 2001, when Holy Cross was a two-year college. However, since graduating its first class of baccalaureate students in 2005, the size of each graduating class has grown exponentially from 14 (in 2005) to 115 in 2014.
The Registrar's office reports that of Holy Cross' 535 students, 52 percent are from states other than Indiana. The student body is made up of residents from 23 states and 10 countries, as well as 14 different religious backgrounds. This year's incoming class saw a 50 percent increase in the number of new freshmen from St. Joseph County (Indiana).
Additionally, Holy Cross has witnessed a steady increase in the quality of its students, with an average first-year in-state GPA of 3.15 for 2014, up two percent over 2013.
With increased enrollment and a freshman residence requirement, on-campus housing is near capacity. Until the college's new residence hall is complete for the fall 2015 semester, Holy Cross is housing 42 upper-classmen at University Edge Apartments (Roseland, Indiana), just a half mile north of campus. Brother John Paige CSC, college president, notes “it is an exciting prospect to look forward to major new construction on campus to accommodate our growing population of student residents.”
Holy Cross College was founded in 1966 as a Catholic junior college offering associate degrees. The college began offering bachelor's degree programs in 2003 and now nearly all students enroll seeking four-year degrees.
With nine majors and 15 minors established, Holy Cross this year also added an additional pre-professional track in science. The pre-professional program is a category for students who intend to enter a professional school, such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, or pre-law, after graduating with their bachelor's degrees

KOKOMO, Ind. (September 5, 2014) – A record number of recent high school graduates make Indiana University Kokomo their campus of choice for the fall 2014 semester.
Of the 4,180 students registered, 467 are recent high school graduates, an increase of approximately 11 percent. Almost half of these new students earned Indiana honors diplomas.
“I am very pleased to see our freshman students have made IU Kokomo their campus of choice. Also, it's exciting to an increase in full-time students and those with academic honors,” said Chancellor Susan Sciame-Giesecke.
Seventy-six percent of degree-seeking undergraduates enrolled full time, a 3.6 percent increase, and another campus record. Students are taking an impressive 39,590 credit hours, another all-time high.
Other remarkable growth includes:
-Minority population up nearly 11 percent, including an increase of 20 percent for Hispanic students and 9.7 percent for African-American students
-A 23 percent increase in international student enrollment, with a record-setting 54.
Many students choose IU Kokomo for its wide variety of world-class degree programs, including the new hospitality and tourism program, which offered its first classes this semester.
It also offers enhanced student life opportunities, with a women's basketball team playing its first season, a fraternity colony, a state of the art wellness and fitness center, and a wide variety of concerts, movies, and other events, designed to create a vibrant campus community.
