A northeast Indiana car museum has exceeded its $4.8 million fundraising goal one year sooner than planned. The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum's “Road Ahead” capital campaign is supporting improvements for conservation, education and technology. September 5, 2014

News Release

AUBURN, Ind. — The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum surpassed its $4.8 million The Road Ahead capital campaign goal one year ahead of schedule.

The Road Ahead capital campaign, planned as a three year campaign, was publicly launched over the Labor Day weekend 2012. Two matching gift challenges were instrumental in the museum achieving and surpassing its goal. An anonymous 2 to 1 matching challenge gift was the catalyst that brought the campaign to a successful over-the-top close at the museum’s annual benefit Extravaganza.

The Road Ahead capital campaign was created to move the world renowned automobile museum forward in areas of education, technology and conservation. A multi-functional outdoor Education & Exhibit Plaza across the street from the museum is planned as the fourth and final campaign project. The museum plans to complete the plaza by mid-August 2015, just in time for the annual Labor Day festivities.

Funds from the campaign have already been used to complete the Collection Conservation Center where volunteers work to maintain and preserve automobiles that are part of the growing automobile collection.

Nearly half of forty planned educational touchscreen kiosks are installed throughout museum galleries, making the museum’s extensive research archives available to museum visitors at the site of an artifact.

Tuckpointing and roof repair work on the historic museum building is taking place this fall and the popular banquet and conference center areas will be refurbished this winter.

Board of Trustees and Capital Campaign Chairman Michael Eikenberry and Honorary National Campaign Chairman Terence E. Adderley celebrated taking the campaign over the top along with 300 attendees at the museum’s Ninth Annual Benefit Extravaganza on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the museum.

“We are grateful to the generous matching challenge and to all of the donors, locally and nationally, that charitably support our efforts to be one of the finest automobile museums in the world. Also, thank you to the campaign ambassadors that worked to help us achieve this goal,” said Executive Director Laura Brinkman. On behalf of the museum and of this beautiful community, we thank each and every one of you. We will use your dollars wisely, the outcomes of which will generate an even greater economic impact on our area.”
