The Community Health Network Foundation has received an $840,000 grant from the Indianapolis-based Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation. The funding will support primary and behavioral health care services at more than a dozen Indianapolis charter schools. September 3, 2014

News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -The Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation has awarded Community Health Network Foundation an $839,400 grant to provide health services in 15 Indianapolis charter schools and expand Community Health Network's strong commitment to school-based healthcare.

The funding allows Community to place nurses, therapists and other caregivers in school-based clinics to address the primary health needs of the students. The grant also allows Community to conduct health assessments for the communities surrounding each of the schools. Results of those assessments will drive action plans to improve the health of the students' communities.

Starting this fall, Community will provide a mix of primary care and behavioral care, sports medicine and health and wellness education to the following elementary, junior high and high school charter schools:

-Andrew J. Brown Academy

-Charles A. Tindley Accelerated School

-Christel House Academy South

-Christel House Academy West

-Hope Academy

-Indianapolis Lighthouse Charter School

-Irvington Community Elementary School

-Irvington Community Middle School

-Irvington Preparatory Academy

-Monument Lighthouse Charter School

-Paramount School of Excellence

-Tindley Collegiate Academy

-Tindley Preparatory Academy

-Tindley Renaissance Academy

-Tindley Summit

The grant also encourages partnerships with area community service providers, and these organizations will partner with Community:

-Jane Pauley Community Health Centers

-Jump IN for Healthy Kids

-Marion County Health Department

-Ruth Lilly Health Education Center

“This is an incredible opportunity to help thousands of students stay healthy and in our schools,” said Joyce Irwin, Community Health Network Foundation’s president and CEO. “We will be able to care for the students while also working with partners to improve the health of multiple communities. We are grateful for the funding The Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation has provided and the many lives this grant will impact.”

“The Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation has been working with healthcare providers in the community to develop new school-based models of healthcare for all the charter schools and we are pleased to support Community Health Network's new approach in these 15 schools,” said Ellen Quigley, grants officer of the Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation.
