Ivy Tech Community College has announced a partnership with a global trucking company. The collaboration involves offering Wisconsin-based Schneider's 160-hour Contract Training program at the school's Indianapolis campus. September 3, 2014

News Release

INDIANAPOLIS and GREEN BAY, Wis. – To help encourage and promote careers in truck driving, Schneider, one of the nation's largest truckload carriers, is offering a Contract Training program with Ivy Tech Community College. Schneider's Contract Training program is available at Ivy Tech's campus in Indianapolis.

Schneider will cover the program's cost for students seeking a Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL). The program covers instruction, behind-the-wheel driver training with instructors, licensing and all endorsements. Candidates will go through a preapproval process, and Schneider will cover the tuition upon successful completion of the program. In total, the program takes 160 hours to complete in a standard Monday–Friday, four-week schedule.

“Schneider is proud of our long-standing relationship with Ivy Tech Community College, and we've hired many of their graduates,” said Rob Reich, senior vice president at Schneider. “Their training meets the highest standards and prepares graduates for the industry.”

Reich continued, “We are committed to investing in the residents of Indiana and providing new careers. Schneider’s business is growing, especially in Indianapolis – we are putting our money where our mouth is to develop and hire new drivers to meet our customers’ needs.”

Schneider employs and leases over 414 drivers and owner-operators throughout the state of Indiana and is currently hiring statewide.

Successful graduates will find many different career opportunities at Schneider to meet any new driver’s work–lifestyle balance needs. Graduates can choose from opportunities in Schneider’s Van, Dedicated, Team Expedited, Tanker and Intermodal divisions. Over 90 percent of Schneider’s Regional drivers get home weekly, and 70 percent of the entire fleet gets home weekly or more. Graduates are offered a complete benefits package and can earn up to $61,000 in their first year with Schneider and over $78,000 per year within three years.

“We have a comprehensive truck driving academy, and the opportunity to team up with Schneider will make it one of the best driver training programs in the nation,” said Sherman Johnson, executive director of Ivy Tech's Corporate College. “Offering these incentives up-front puts students on the fast track to a long and successful career,” noted Johnson.

In addition to the Contract Training program Schneider offers to Ivy Tech and select other community college graduates, it also offers a Tuition Reimbursement program for graduates at truck driving schools.

Interested candidates can contact Schneider at 877-872-1766 or apply online at www.schneiderjobs.com – select “Driving School Programs” and complete the preapproval form to get started. Candidates can also contact Ivy Tech Community College at 317-968-1546.
