Indianapolis, Ind. — Tonight the IndyGo Board of Directors awarded the contract for construction of the agency's Downtown Transit Center to Bloomington-based Weddle Bros. Building Group, LLC.
“The award of the construction contract represents a significant milestone for the transit center project,” said Michael Terry, IndyGo president and CEO. “We're excited to break ground before the end of September.”
The Downtown Transit Center will be the hub for the bus system in Indianapolis, located at 201 E. Washington St. The estimated $20M center will be comprised of a 14,000 square foot building with a public indoor waiting area, IndyGo customer service team and facilities for bus operators. 19 canopied bus bays across the 2 acre site will offer convenient transfers for passengers.
Weddle Bros. bid to construct the Downtown Transit Center for $16,894,000, the lowest of six bids for the project. The firm has more than 60 years experience in constructing facilities for both the public and private sectors. The Weddle Bros. Building Group is one division of a diversified family of companies. Other Weddle Bros. operations include WB Koester, Weddle Bros. Highway Group, Weddle Bros. Design & Build and WB Transportation Services.
Other firms that bid to construct the Downtown Transit Center were JC Ripberger, Gibralter, McDougall-Pierce, Wilhelm and SM Wilson.
