The Job Creation and Training Initiative involves training for unemployed and underemployed workers including veterans and ex-offenders. INDIANAPOLIS- Citizens Energy Group announced today its participation in an initiative to reduce unemployment rates in Marion County and to expand the number of trained and qualified job candidates in the community. The Job Creation and Training Initiative (JCTI) was jointly developed by Citizens, EmployIndy and Strategic Management Solutions (SMS).
“At Citizens we value a qualified, diverse and inclusive workforce,” said Jeff Harrison, Senior Vice President, Engineering and Sustainability. “Programs such as the Job Creation and Training Initiative help to maintain a sustainable community by developing and expanding the local pool of qualified employees and contractor candidates from which we at Citizens are able to pull.”
JCTI will recruit up to 120 participants who are either unemployed or underemployed. Participants may include military veterans, ex-offenders and those with low incomes. During the program, participants will spend 16 classroom hours learning about nutrition, health, personal finance management, job site safety, and how to prepare for an interview. They will also receive skills training in areas specifically focused on water and wastewater such as pipe fusion, sewer main installation, project management and construction practices.
Once the training is complete, participants will have a chance to earn industry-recognized certificates through programs such as the Indiana Department of Transportation – Certified Technician Program. Program participants will also be paid a $10 per hour training stipend and will be qualified for jobs that pay an average of $20 per hour.
JCTI will be coordinated through PowerTrain Indy, a job training program administered by EmployIndy to provide job placement for targeted communities in Marion County. Enrollment in the JCTI program begins this fall. To learn more or begin enrolling in PowerTrain Indy, visit www.workoneindy.org.
