Two Indiana airports are moving forward with new leadership at a time of great change in the industry. Indianapolis Airport Authority Executive Director Mario Rodriguez, who has been on the job since June, says major airline mergers have led the airport to increase focus on growing carriers such as Jet Blue Airways and Virgin America. The Gary/Chicago International Airport Authority has approved Delbert Brown as airport director. That facility is also undergoing significant change. The board earlier this year approved a 40-year, $100 million public-private investment partnership. Rodriguez spoke about the industry's future on Inside INdiana Business Television. Aigust 26, 2014

News Release

GARY, Ind. – The Gary/Chicago International Airport Authority unanimously approved the appointment of Mr. Delbert Brown, AvPorts' selection for Airport Manager, today at its regularly scheduled board meeting. After a thorough nationwide search conducted by AvPorts, the Airport's public-private partner, it was Delbert's strong combination of aviation, business, management, and urban/community development experience, that secured him the position.

Delbert was the former Airport Director for the Detroit City Airport, now Coleman A. Young Airport, where he led an effort to provide more than $65 million in private investments into the Department. He was directly involved in strategic master planning efforts at the Airport and implemented a series of best practices to improve the overall management, security, and safety of staff and customers.

“Delbert comes highly recommended by peers, partners, and community leaders as someone who is thoughtful, strategic and results-driven,” said Ozzie Moore, President of AvPorts. “We are thrilled to have him lead AvPorts' engagement in Gary.”

Operating on an interim basis since August 11, Delbert will be responsible for managing the daily functions of the Airport. He will report to the Authority's Interim Airport Director, BR Lane, who oversees AvPorts' performance as part of the public-private partnership established earlier this year.

“I look forward to working in partnership with Delbert to continue to advance the vision for the Gary/Chicago International Airport,” said Lane.

The management structure in Gary is similar to what AvPorts already operates under at Albany International Airport (ALB), Stewart International (SWF), Tweed New Haven Airport (HVN), Teterboro Airport (TEB), Republic Airport (FRG), and Atlantic City International (ACY).
