Arizona-based Rural Metro Corp. says a “strategic business decision” to discontinue most ambulance services in Indiana could leave more than 350 people without jobs. In a notice to the state, the company says it plans to end contracts with Madison County and the cities of Indianapolis, Martinsville and Logansport. It will continue serving New Albany.

Many jobs involve a billing operation in Indianapolis. You can view information about that closure in the company's letter to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development by clicking here.

A separate letter to the state, the company outlines reasons for ending ambulance services in many communities.

Rural Metro says it has become “increasingly difficult” to serve smaller, rural areas. The company also cites changes to the national health care climate and “low” Medicare reimbursement rates in Indiana have created “difficult business environment.”
