Posey County is set to take ownership of a bridge deemed unsafe for traffic. The Evansville Courier & Press reports county commissioners made the move after Citizens for Reopening Harmony Way Bridge presented a petition with more than 3,000 signatures. Proponents for the bridge want it repaired and reopened to traffic.

Ownership of the bridge includes about 13 acres owned by the White County, Illinois Bridge Commission. However, ownership cannot be transferred before a complete audit of the bridges finances.

The bridge opened to traffic in December 1930. It officially closed to traffic in May 2012 after an engineering report revealed the bridge was unsafe to carry traffic.
