News Release

SELLERSBURG, Ind. - Leadership Southern Indiana (LSI) is kicking off an Emerging Leaders initiative, designed for the 40 and under crowd, on Thursday, Sept. 18 at The Loft on Spring in New Albany. The initiative is yet another way LSI is working to develop the leadership capacity of Southern Indiana.

"What is most exciting is that this is being driven by a group of young professionals within LSI," said Mark Eddy, LSI Executive Director. "It will be a great networking and professional development opportunity customized by and for the 40 and under crowd."

The event is being dubbed "Growing Southern Indiana's Young Leaders." Doors open at 4:30 p.m at 138 E. Spring St. with the program beginning at 5:20 p.m. The cost is $15 for the general public and $10 for LSI members. Anyone interested in attending needs to register at www.LeadershipSI.org by Monday, Sept. 8.

Participants will have the opportunity to network with fellow businessmen and women while enjoying drinks and light hor d'oeuvres. Following the social hour, the young professionals will hear from a panel of individuals from the last three years of Business Source's "Top 20 Under 40."

The panel includes:

-Andrew Takami; Director, Purdue College of Technology

-Crystal Gunther; Grants and Program Officer, Community Foundation of Southern Indiana

-Jay Conner; Investment Advisor, Meritrust Wealth Management

-Kerry Stemler, President of K.M. Stemler Company Inc., will moderate the discussion.

"Any young professional from the community is invited to this event," said Garrett Smith, Financial Representative at Northwestern Mutual and LSI Alumni Committee Chair. "It will be a great opportunity to meet other young professionals while also helping create a better understanding and appreciation for the great things happening in Southern Indiana."

According to Smith, he originally introduced the idea for the Emerging Leaders program to Eddy, who jumped on board immediately.

"LSI has made a great impact on my career," said Smith. "The more I have been a part of LSI, though, the more I've realized not many professionals my age are taking advantage of all that we offer. Emerging Leaders should bridge the gap between young professionals and LSI."

Eddy also thanked Derby Dinner Playhouse for sponsoring the event.
