Indianapolis-based Sun King Brewing Co. is unveiling plans for a second location it describes as “nothing like you've seen in Indiana.” The state's second-largest brewer has purchased nearly 13 acres near I-69 and 96th Street in Fishers for construction of a $10 million brewery, tasting room and facilities capable of “hosting thousands of our friends” for special events. The Fishers Town Council will tonight consider an economic development agreement that would bring Sun King to Hamilton County. Robinson says the second brewery would be located at Kincaid Drive and Park Central Drive, near the Fry's Electronics store in Fishers, and will be totally different than Sun King's downtown Indianapolis location. For one, the Fishers location would be larger.

“Instead of a tasting room for 150 people, we could be talking about capacity for 450,” says Robinson. The brewer also expects to weigh new offerings, including Sunday hours. “We want this to be a destination for the state of Indiana,” said Robinson.

Sun King opened its first brewery in downtown Indianapolis in 2009. At the time, the company hoped to reach annual production of 5,000 barrels in 5 years. After eight expansions, the brewer says it is now at 30,000 barrels and needs a second location to keep up with demand. Sun King's downtown location will remain open.
