Visit Bloomington estimates 175 travel journalism and tourism professionals will attend a national industry event next year in the city. Executive Director Mike McAfee says the conference is a “rare opportunity” to showcase the community that will have a long-term, positive economic impact. August 12, 2014

News Release

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Bloomington has been selected as the host destination for Travel Media Showcase, a national conference that will bring in approximately 175 prestigious travel journalists and tourism industry representatives from North America next year. The conference will be held at the Bloomington/Monroe County Convention Center and will consist of one-on-one appointments, local and regional press tours and numerous networking events at various Bloomington attractions.

“Visit Bloomington couldn't be more pleased to have our community selected as the 2015 host destination, especially since this is the first time Travel Media Showcase has been in Indiana. Our goal, as always, is to provide an amazing visitor experience so the writers will be eager to create feature stories on Bloomington, Monroe County, and surrounding areas,” said Erin Erdmann, Convention Sales and Travel Media Director for Visit Bloomington.

The showcase will run from August 11-14 with pre-tours taking place August 9-10. While in town, the writers and tourism industry professionals will be exposed to the defining characteristics of our community including the campus of Indiana University, award-winning wineries, breweries & restaurants, thriving visual arts and cultural scene, as well as the great outdoors.

“Hosting many of the best travel media journalists in the business is a rare opportunity for Bloomington. Having them here in person makes all the difference in the world and we are confident they will be impressed by their experiences. The publicity and awareness generated by the stories they write after their time spent here will motivate more visitors to choose Bloomington and Monroe County as a travel destination, resulting in positive impact on our economy that will be felt for years to come,” said Mike McAfee, Executive Director for Visit Bloomington.

Previous host cities have included:

Sioux Falls, SD

Oklahoma City, OK

Irvine, CA

Montgomery, AL

Kansas City, MO

Palm Springs, CA

Bloomington's selection as the next host city was announced Thursday, August 7 at the 2014 conference in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
