The Indianapolis-based MESH Coalition has named Timothy Stephens chief executive officer. He previously worked for a public health management consulting firm. August 6, 2014

News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The MESH Coalition announced today that it has appointed Timothy Stephens as its Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. In addition, MESH announced that Interim CEO Bobby A. Courtney, MA, MPH, JD has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel.

As CEO, Stephens will lead the MESH Coalition, an innovative Indianapolis-based non-profit, public-private healthcare coalition that enables healthcare providers to effectively respond to emergency events and remain viable through recovery, as it continues to improve healthcare emergency preparedness in Central Indiana while sharing its vision of coalition building with a national audience.

“I am so pleased to have Tim bring his vision and leadership to the MESH Coalition,” said Virginia A. Caine, M.D., Director of the Marion County Public Health Department and Chair of the MESH Coalition Board of Directors. “He is the right person to lead MESH as we grow in our role as a national and international healthcare leader, helping communities develop healthcare coalitions in the MESH model. Tim’s national experience in public health preparedness and strategic management will enable him to build on the success the MESH Coalition has achieved in its first six years and guide the organization in writing its next chapter.”

Stephens comes to the MESH Coalition from Rescobie Associates, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in public health management and preparedness, where he was founder, president, and principal associate. He is also the founder and principal advisor for the Emergency Services Coalition for Medical Preparedness, where he has been a leading advocate for operations and policies to improve first responder protections. Prior to Rescobie, Stephens was director of preparedness for the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials, where he directed association activities in the aftermath of 9/11 and the anthrax terrorist acts. He regularly consults on food security, risk management, and public engagement strategies with local, state, and federal officials and private businesses. He is an adjunct nursing instructor at Vanderbilt University and works with the National Center for Emergency Preparedness.

Bobby Courtney, who has served as the MESH Coalition’s interim CEO since January, has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel. He was previously the organization’s chief of programming. In his new role, Mr. Courtney will lead the organization’s legal and policy development work and play a significant role in managing the MESH Coalition’s Indianapolis operations.

“Bobby’s vast knowledge of healthcare emergency management is an asset to the MESH Coalition and to the Central Indiana healthcare community,” said MESH Coalition Chief Medical Officer Charles Miramonti, MD. “I do not know of anyone better qualified to guide our development of healthcare emergency preparedness policy and enhance our relationship with local healthcare and emergency response partners.”

Mr. Stephens and Mr. Courtney will be based at the MESH Coalition headquarters in Indianapolis.
