News Release

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Visit South Bend Mishawaka is pleased to announce, after a 17-month-long selection process, South Bend will be the host city of the 2016 Delta Theta Tau sorority's National Convention. The 350 attendees will be staying at the Waterford Estates Lodge during the convention, which will be held July 10-16, 2016.

“It is an honor and privilege to be the host hotel for the 2016 Delta Theta Tau sorority's National Convention,” states Joy Wagnerowski, Director of Sales and Catering for Waterford Estates Lodge. “This event will allow us to showcase true Midwest hospitality.”

During their time in the area, Delta Theta Tau attendees are expected to have an estimated $504,654 impact on the local economy. Additionally, due to the national scope of the convention, it is anticipated that roughly 50 percent of the convention attendees will be traveling by air into our community.

The 2016 Convention Chair and New Carlisle resident, Bonnie DeMeyer, made first contact with the Visit South Bend Mishawaka sales team in February 2013 to explore South Bend as a potential host city. The selection process was then taken to the sorority's “province” committee (representing chapters from Ind., Mich. and Ohio), then to the national officers. During this year's Delta Theta Tau National Convention, South Bend was named the 2016 host city.

“I'm just so happy they chose South Bend,” says Bonnie DeMeyer, 2016 Delta Theta Tau National Convention Chair. South Bend was chosen over Cincinnati and Grand Rapids in the final step of the selection process.

All economic impact quantities were calculated using the Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) Event Impact Calculator. All information is based on local market size and other information specific to St. Joseph County to generate the most accurate numbers possible.
