Canadian Diplomat Big on Indiana Energy

Subscribe NowThe Canadian Consul General based in Chicago believes the BP Whiting Refinery is a key element in the economic relationship between Canada and the U.S. Roy Norton's area includes Northwest Indiana and he is touring the region Wednesday. He tells Inside INdiana Business the refinery is a “beacon” in the nations' efforts to achieve energy independence. BP recently completed a more than $4 billion modernization project, giving the refinery more capacity to process Canadian heavy crude. Norton has been in the Chicago Consulate for roughly two months.
He previously served in a similar role out of Detroit, which had responsibilities for the majority of Indiana.
Norton believes there is plenty of potential to increase economic ties. He says the state has a reputation for strong and well-educated work force.
The Canadian diplomat sees plenty of similarities between Indiana and his home country, including the manufacturing sectors, societal values and the fact that business leaders on both sides have a solid understanding of each area.
