INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Finish Line Youth Foundation announced today the award of $153,593 to grant recipients in the first quarter of 2014. The 18 grants went to organizations that place an importance on youth development and an active lifestyle in 14 states.
“Our mission to keep kids healthy and active unites us with these 18 amazing organizations,” said Marty Posch, Executive Director of the Finish Line Youth Foundation. “We know that when we work together to support our nation’s children, everyone wins.”
The Finish Line Youth Foundation supports qualified non-profit organizations that provide community-based access to athletics for children and camps that provide services to those who are disadvantaged or disabled.
The deadline to submit grant applications at www.flyf.org for this quarter is June 30.
LEGACY GRANT
Junior Blind (Los Angeles) – $65,593 for the organization's Camp Bloomfield to renovate its aquatics center. Camp Bloomfield provides children who are blind, visually impaired or multi-disabled with a safe, nature-centered environment to help develop their self-esteem and build independence. Among other repairs, the donation from the Youth Foundation will update the camp's restrooms and locker rooms, and it will provide an ADA-compliant lift to enable children with additional disabilities to safely access the pool.
CAMPS
American Diabetes Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania (Bala Cynwyd, Pa.) – $5,000 to fund Camp Freedom for youth with Type 1 diabetes.
American Lung Association in Colorado (Englewood, Colo.) – $5,000 for Champ Camp, which serves children ages seven through 14 with asthma.
Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre (Carmel, Ind.) – $5,000 to help fund Perfect Harmony, an anti-bullying camp in partnership with Special Olympics.
Camp Laurel Foundation (Pasadena, Calif.) – $5,000 for Camp Lauren for kids affected by HIV and AIDS.
Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation (Atlanta) – $5,000 to help fund Camp Strong4Life which serves young adults who are obese.
Connecticut Burns Care Foundation (Milford, Conn.) – $5,000 to fund Arther C. Luf Burn Camp for children ages eight and older with life-altering burn injuries.
Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky National Hemophilia Foundation (Cincinnati) – $5,000 for Camp NJOYITALL for children with bleeding disorders.
Little Red Door Cancer Agency (Indianapolis) – $5,000 for Camp Little Red Door for pediatric cancer patients.
Moorestown Visiting Nurse Association (Moorestown, N.J.) – $3,500 to help fund Camp Firefly, a camp that helps children who have recently lost a parent or loved one.
Ramapo for Children (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) – $4,500 for Camp Ramapo, a residential summer camp for children with disabilities.
The Boggy Creek Gang (Eustis, Fla.) – $10,000 to fund Camp Boggy Creek, which provides therapeutic camp programming to children battling serious illnesses.
The People’s Burn Foundation (Indianapolis) – $5,000 for Camp Saturday for children with burn injuries.
HEALTHY LIFESTYLES
American SCORES Chicago (Chicago) – $5,000 to help fund Literacy in Action, the organization’s soccer program for at-risk youth.
Boys & Girls Club of Boston (Boston) – $5,000 for the group’s wheelchair basketball program.
EQUI-KIDS (Virginia Beach, Va.) – $5,000 to fund the organization’s therapeutic riding program for children with disabilities.
Franciscan Hospital for Children (Brighton, Mass.) – $5,000 for an adaptive recreation program for children and young adults with disabilities.
Team Rogue (Austin) – $5,000 for Marathon High, a running program for at-risk youth.
