An aging southern Indiana radio tower has been taken down. WITZ and two sister stations in Jasper are using a temporary antenna and wireless technology to stay on the air while a new tower is being erected. Our partners at Eyewitness News in Evansville report Wednesday's demolition didn't go as envisioned. Chandler-based Electronics Research Inc. planned to remove guide wires in such a way that the tower would fall deliberately to the ground.

Instead, the decaying frame buckled and collapsed. No one was hurt during the process.

Work is now underway to dismantle and remove the remains of the nearly 70 year-old structure.
