Toyota Motor Corp. (NYSE: TM) is moving production of the Camry from Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc. in Lafayette to a plant in Kentucky. The shift is expected to take place during the second half of 2016. WLFI-TV in West Lafayette reported last year the pending launch of a Subaru Impreza line will help the facility maintain current employment levels.

News Release

TOYOTA CITY, Japan (May 8, 2014) – Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announces that consignment production of its “Camry” vehicles will cease at Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. (SIA), a Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI) production base in Lafayette, Indiana in the United States. In fall of 2016, production of Camry vehicles will shift from SIA to Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc., in Georgetown, Kentucky in the United States.

The decision was made jointly by FHI and TMC, following discussions regarding production structure optimization.

In October 2005, TMC and FHI entered a partnership agreement enabling the two companies to share resources for R&D and production, while respecting the distinct brand identities and management styles of both companies. As part of this collaboration, consignment production of the Camry at SIA began in 2007.

TMC will continue to collaborate with FHI on products and technology.
