Indianapolis, Ind. — The Indiana Homeland Security Foundation has approved more than $400,000 in grants to aid public safety agencies statewide.
Awards were given to 112 recipients in 62 counties. Recipients include local fire departments, emergency medical services, law enforcement and emergency management agencies in all 10 IDHS Districts.
The focus of the foundation is to support the future of public safety and to provide grant funding to local agencies for critical needs across Indiana. Grants provide up to $4,000. Eligible projects include:
• Equipping emergency responders with personal protective equipment;
• Acquiring equipment for use by emergency responders;
• Providing radios and technology equipment; and
• Training for emergency responders.
Examples of items that current grant approvals funded include protective equipment, fire gear, defibrillators, fire hoses, computer and communication equipment, thermal imaging cameras and rescue mannequins.
“Local public safety agencies play a critical role in the safety of Hoosiers across the state,” said Governor Mike Pence. “This grant money allows our first responders to replace and upgrade equipment vital to daily operations. By improving equipment and capabilities, our emergency response personnel statewide will have the tools they need to help keep Hoosiers safe.”
The Indiana Homeland Security Foundation is funded through the purchase of “Secure Indiana” license plates. These funds provide grants to public safety agencies and scholarships to students statewide.
The following agencies were awarded grants from the Indiana Homeland Security Foundation:
Adams
• Adams County was awarded $1,000 for a laptop computer.
• Preble Volunteer Fire Fighting Association was awarded $4,000 for personal protective equipment.
Allen
• Allen County was awarded $3,491 for an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) with training and replacement pads.
• City of Fort Wayne Police Department was awarded $3,832 for a mask mounted communication unit.
Bartholomew
• Southwest Bartholomew Volunteer Fire Department was awarded $4,000 for extrication saws.
Clark
• Clark County was awarded $4,000 for casualty response kits for the sheriff’s department.
Clay
• Clay City, Harrison Fire Department was awarded $4,000 for National Fire Protection Association-compliant self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) gear.
• Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Company was awarded $4,000 for a thermal imaging camera.
• Lewis Township Volunteer Fire Company was awarded $4,000 for a thermal imaging camera.
• Posey Township Clay County Volunteer Fire Department was awarded $3,915 for fire hoses.
Clinton
• City of Frankfort Fire Department was awarded $4,000 for blitz nozzles.
• Rossville Volunteer Fire Department was awarded $3,999.96 for fire hose replacement.
Daviess
• City of Washington Fire Department was awarded $3,825 for extrication equipment.
• Elnora-Elmore Township Volunteer Fire Department was awarded $3,999.99 for three sets of turnout gear.
• Town of Odon Police Department was awarded $4,000 for radios.
• Town of Montgomery Fire Department was awarded $3,875 for adapter fittings, a low level strainer, and a ball intake valve.
Decatur
• City of Greensburg Fire Department was awarded $199 for a TV connection to run emergency management software.
• Decatur County was awarded $3,999 for a patient rescue and treatment sled.
Delaware
• City of Muncie Fire Department was awarded $3,975.34 for SCBA equipment, audio-alarm kits, a communications system, and shoulder straps for air cylinders.
• Delaware County EMS was awarded $4,000 for reflective vests.
• Town of Daleville was awarded $3,400 for body cameras to be used by the police department.
Fayette
• City of Connersville Fire Department was awarded $3,660.76 for two sets of turnout gear.
• Everton Volunteer Fire Department was awarded $3,948 for a nozzle and fire hoses.
Floyd
• Georgetown Township Fire Protection District, Board of Fire Trustees was awarded $4,000 for a SCBA dual fill station.
Fountain
• City of Attica Police Department was awarded $4,000 for a computer small business server to maintain incident reporting.
Franklin
• Eagle Fire Company of Oldenburg was awarded $3,898 for an AED, evacuation chair, and water nozzle.
Fulton
• Aubbeenaubbee Township of Fulton County was awarded $3,900 for structural firefighting coats.
Gibson
• Gibson County Columbia Township Volunteer Fire Department Inc. was awarded $4,000 for fire hoses.
• Oakland City Fire Department was awarded $4,000 for radios.
• Town of Patoka Fire Department was awarded $1,848.98 for an AED, medical kit, and an oxygen delivery kit.
• Town of Patoka Police Department was awarded $1,894.97 for an AED, medical kit, oxygen delivery kit, and a case.
Grant
• Upland, Indiana Volunteer Fire Department was awarded $3,999.97 for firefighting helmets.
Greene
• Center Township Volunteer Fire Department was awarded $3,800 for fire hoses.
• Richland-Taylor Township Volunteer Fire Department was awarded $2,000 for nozzles.
Hamilton
• City of Carmel Fire Department was awarded $4,000 for an in-vehicle helmet containment system.
• City of Noblesville Police Department was awarded $2,790 for AEDs.
• Town of Fishers was awarded $3,985 for active shooter personal protection equipment kits.
Harrison
• Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Department was awarded $4,000 for a swift water rescue inflatable raft.
Hendricks
• Town of Danville Fire Department was awarded $4,000 for a thermal imaging camera.
Henry
• Greensboro and Greensboro Township Volunteer Fire Department was awarded $4,000 for helmets with shields, helmet lights, a protective coat, and a vital signs monitor.
Howard
• City of Kokomo Fire Department was awarded $4,000 for trauma packs and trauma oxygen bags.
• Howard County Sheriff was awarded $4,000 for battery powered lighting.
Huntington
• Huntington County Sheriff was awarded $3,995 for a laptop and docking station.
Jackson
• Brownstown Township Fire Protection District, Board of Fire Trustees was awarded $4,000 for computers, mounting equipment, and mapping software.
• City of Seymour Fire Department was awarded $3,871.56 for 22 helmets.
• Crothersville and Vernon Township Fire Department was awarded $3,508 for fire hoses, hoods and gloves, and baskets.
• Owen Township Volunteer Fire Department was awarded $3,982.77 for air compressors, tire gauges, and an air hose with reel.
Johnson
• Bargersville Community Fire Protection District, Board of Fire Trustees was awarded $1,946.12 for 22 rope rescue helmets.
Kosciusko
• Town of Syracuse Police Department was awarded $3,878.40 for radios.
LaGrange
• Topeka Volunteer Fire Department was awarded $4,000 for voice pagers.
• Town of Topeka Police Department was awarded $4,000 for computers.
Lake
• City of East Chicago Fire Department was awarded $4,000 for fire hoses.
• City of Hammond Fire Department was awarded $3,998.50 for rescue-grade rope, carabiner clips, and webbing.
