A memorial service is set for Tuesday to honor a man who spent more than four decades on the air in northern Indiana. William Vilmure has dies. He was better known as Bill Darwin and hosted “Good Morning Michiana” on WSJV-TV in Elkhart. He was also a radio personality on WTRC. Vilmure was 80. Obituary For William L. ELKHART, Ind. – William L. Vilmure , AKA Bill Darwin, 80 of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend.

He was born Jan. 10, 1934 in Louisville, KY to William J. and Eleanora (Habich) Vilmure. He first married Bobbie Partipilo. He then married Virginia “Ginger” Flagg on Nov. 29, 1975 in Elkhart. He is survived by his wife, Ginger Vilmure of Elkhart and his children, Lisa Moses, Laura Vilmure and Mark (Michelle) Vilmure all of Elkhart, and 5 grandchildren, Kyle, Joshua, Krysta, Alyssa and Allison. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Chris Vilmure.

Bill graduated from the University of Louisville and served in the U. S. Army with the Armed Forces Radio and TV network services in Tokyo. He retired in 2010 as a radio and television personality in Elkhart since 1967. He hosted Good Morning Michiana on WSJV for 25 years and was a WTRC radio personality.

He attended Faith United Methodist Church and was a lifetime member of the Jaycees and a charter member of other Jaycee Chapters. He was formerly on the Board of Directors of the Elkhart County Humane Society and hosted the Muscular Dystrophy Labor Day Telethon for 23 years on TV.

Visitation for Bill will be Monday, May 12th from 2-5 & 6-8 pm at Faith United Methodist Church and an hour prior to the memorial service at 11 am Tuesday, May 13th at Faith United Methodist Church. Pastor John Hogsett will officiate. Interment will be at St. Vincents Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, Muscular Dystrophy Association or Ryan's Place. Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.stemmlawsonpeterson.com.
